Actresses working with Johnny's must meet requirements

January saw the beginning of several television dramas starring talents from Johnny's Jimusho, the leading ladies of which-- Aragaki Yui (Code Blue, with Yamashita Tomohisa of NEWS), Omasa Aya (Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge, with KAT-TUN's Kamenashi Kazuya), Ishihara Satomi (Hidarime Tantei EYE, with Yamada Ryosuke of Hey! Say! JUMP), and Horikita Maki (Tokujo Kabachi!!, with Arashi's Sakurai Sho)-- are said to share a common feature.

"None of them have had any major scandals. Aragaki, Omasa and Horikita are 'scandal virgins,' while the most Ishihara's had were tabloid reports about the close relationship she apparently had with her manager at the time," says one female journalist. That said, while Yamada is still young and has many opportunities ahead of him, Yamashita and Kamenashi have garnered reputations as womanizers-- through their relationships with actress Kitagawa Keiko and Koizumi Kyoko, respectively-- and Sakurai should by all rights be getting married soon. Why is it that the agency is so picky about their lead actresses, while turning a blind eye to the shortcomings of its own talents?

"If a drama were announced with a female lead who was involved in a scandal, the media would focus in on that, and the Johnny's talent starring in the drama would be overshadowed by it-- which would displease the agency's president, Kitagawa Johnny. It's not uncommon for Johnny's' executive staff to have cast members replaced at the last minute, after doing a full inspection of the co-stars," says a drama industry insider.

Kimura Takuya's co-star in the long-awaited and highly-anticipated live-action version of Uchuu Senkan Yamato (Space Battleship Yamato), Kuroki Meisa, is apparently boycotting romance.

"Even though she was supposedly dating kabuki actor Nakamura Shido, she suddenly broke off ties with him, also fervently denying that she was getting back together with her musician ex-boyfriend. Kuroki and Horikita are both part of agencies that are partial towards Johnny's, and they have to do whatever their agencies want," a movie industry insider claims.

It seems that piece of the Johnny's pie might not be so sweet after all.
